Named after the people it is for
Shofe is Zimbabwean slang for a haulage driver. Mashofe is the plural of it - the drivers, all of them, which is exactly who this board is for. It is not a word invented in a branding session. It is what the men and women on these roads already call themselves, and it is on the door on purpose.
Why it exists
The idea did not start in a boardroom. An operator running intercity haulage said he wished there were somewhere he could log in, see who needed something picked up and where, go and get it, and be paid. Note the word intercity. The problem he described was not a border problem at all - it was a visibility problem, and it exists just as sharply between two towns in one country.
Everything hard about that problem is already solved elsewhere in the region - it just was not connected. Cabanga Africa reaches business owners with cargo across twenty-four countries through its publication network. Those readers are the shippers. Mashofe.com is what happens when the people with the goods and the people with the trucks are put on the same page.
Where it operates
The SADC region, and only the SADC region: Angola, Botswana, DR Congo, Eswatini, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Domestic legs inside each of those markets sit on the same board as the cross-border runs between them, because to the operator with an empty truck they are the same problem.
What Mashofe.com is
An introduction service, run as a commercial business. It shows loads and it shows trucks. When the two find each other, a person checks both sides are real and puts them together. The transporter and the shipper then do exactly what they have always done - agree a rate, agree terms, move the goods, settle up. Mashofe.com earns a commission on the trip that results, tiered by the value of that trip and paid by whichever party took the match.
What Mashofe.com is not
Mashofe.com is not a carrier and owns no trucks. It is not a freight forwarder and takes custody of nothing. It is not a clearing agent and lodges no customs entry. It is not an insurer and underwrites no loss. It is not a payment provider and the freight money does not pass through it. Those are licensed activities and Mashofe.com deliberately performs none of them.
Where it is run from
Mashofe.com is a digital infrastructure product built and declared out of Botswana by Cabanga Africa (Pty) Ltd, and registered in the other markets it operates in. It sits alongside Musika, Mwambo, Ndarama and Chinyama in the same division.
Where the cargo side comes from
Mashofe.com does not start cold on the demand side. The Cabanga publication network already reaches the businesses posting the loads - fourteen titles, twenty-four countries of circulation and twenty-eight of reach.
The person who built this board
Mashofe.com was built by Oscar Manduku-Habeenzu, founder of Cabanga Africa Group and of Cabanga Platforms, the business unit that builds and runs this board. He holds an MBA from the University of Cumbria and works from Mogoditshane, Botswana.
Cabanga Africa Group has published business media across Southern Africa since 2017, and its titles circulate across twenty-four countries. Mashofe.com comes out of that work rather than out of a technology pitch: a decade of reporting on how goods actually move through this region, turned into the board the reporting kept describing as missing.
The commitments on this site - that the board only makes introductions, that it never becomes a party to your contract, that it will not display a trust mark it has not earned - are his, and complaints about any of them reach him. Write to the desk and it gets to a person.
